When it's time to set aside flip flops and bathing suits, what exactly should one wear to a wedding on the Russian River?

A note on style:

While we went the non-traditional route on much of our wedding festivities, we're dressing to the nines for our big day. We want our guests to feel great, look their best and be comfortable so wear something you'll feel sharp in when you look back at the photos.

The overall aesthetic is bright, summery, quirky and playful.

Advice from April's mother: she always said, "When in doubt, it's better to be overdressed rather than underdressed."

Practically speaking, things to consider:

  • The weather: it'll be hot during the day but get much cooler at night so be sure to pack a sweater or jacket. For an idea of temperatures, check our the neighboring Guerneville's average monthly highs and lows.
  • The pebble parking lot: entry to the Meadow (the ceremony site) crosses a gravel parking lot so your shoes might get a little dusty and your feet might sink in while you're walking. You probably won't want to wear your Manolos.
  • Ceremony site, the Meadow: luxury grass, this is not. While pretty, there are some things to watch out for, like uneven terrain and the occasional gopher hole. For the ladies, we recommend shoes with either a sturdy wedge, heel or better yet, sandals or flats.
  • Reception site, the Community Center: a portion of the reception events will be held on the back lawn. If you're a parent, the neighboring playground is grass and sand.
  • Between the Ceremony and Reception site: is approximately a quarter mile walk in aforementioned gravel and also on sidewalk. It is possible to drive the very short distance between but if you're able-bodied, we recommend taking the very pretty walk.
